Typical products
A practical starting point for scoping your product. Final requirements depend on its design and intended use.
| Product | Typical products | Standards to consider | Assessment focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric drills and impact drills | Mains-powered or battery-operated hand-held drilling tools. | EN 62841-1 and the relevant EN 62841-2-1 requirements. | Mechanical and electrical hazards, abnormal use, operating controls, noise and vibration. |
| Pneumatic impact wrenches | Compressed-air tools for tightening and loosening threaded fasteners. | EN ISO 11148-6; the relevant vibration test code where required. | Trigger and retention functions, air supply, reaction forces, noise and hand-arm vibration. |
| Non-electric grinders | Pneumatic or hydraulic hand-held grinding tools and the specified attachments. | EN ISO 11148-7 where the tool and intended use fall within scope. | Accessory compatibility, guards, overspeed risks, supply connections and emitted vibration. |
These are examples of relevant standard families, not an automatic checklist or a claim that every edition is currently harmonised or designated. We check the applicable part, edition, amendments, restrictions and product scope for the target market.
Testing scope
Review the tool, accessories, foreseeable misuse, air or hydraulic supply and stored energy. The power source changes the hazards, not the need for assessment.
Mechanical & energy safety serviceRelevant to electric tools, electronic controls and supplied chargers. A low-voltage battery tool and a mains charger may follow different electrical legislation.
Electrical safety & EMC serviceSelect the relevant tool test code and declared operating conditions; record the attachment, load and measurement uncertainty.
Noise & hand-arm vibration serviceTarget market
Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC applies until 19 January 2027. Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 generally applies from 20 January 2027. Additional legislation is checked for the product’s functions.
The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 apply. CE remains recognised alongside UKCA for relevant sectors, subject to the applicable route. Outdoor noise, EMC or other rules may also apply.
Relevant EU product rules and CE marking apply. Where a UK body carries out mandatory third-party assessment, CE + UKNI may be required. UKCA alone is not the NI route.
Testing provides evidence for conformity assessment. Third-party certification is required only where the applicable legislation and route require it; the manufacturer remains responsible for the declaration and marking.
Clear outputs
The agreed test report or technical assessment, identified non-conformities, relevant limitations and practical next steps. The quotation identifies the test location and any technical partner involvement.
Share the model, intended use, target market and power source. Photographs, drawings, ratings, manuals and existing reports help, but a complete technical file is not needed for an initial enquiry.
Technical scope reviewed on 22 October 2026. The applicable requirements are confirmed for each project.
